Developing a love of exercise and healthy habits early on will set your kids up for success throughout their life, but martial arts classes teach kids so much more than just self-defense and physical fitness. The process of moving from rank to rank teaches children about setting goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. They develop resilience as they practice skills that may seem difficult at first bet get easier over time. They develop respect, empathy, and patience as they work with others and recognize that those who went first will always reach back and help those who come later.
Martial arts programs often put kids together without taking into consideration the different stages of childhood development. The result is classes that are too difficult for younger kids and not exciting enough for older kids. That’s why our classes are split by age to make sure that the material is presented in a way that is appropriately challenging for every student. Whether they’re in elementary or middle school your kids will have fun while learning at a pace that keeps them excited about coming back to class week after week and working toward their goal of Black Belt and beyond.
High school is a challenging time for parents and teens alike. They constantly insist that you treat them like adults, but then forget to act like the adults they are trying to become. Honestly, they are doing their best, but it can be so frustrating – on both sides. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were someplace where they could learn the hard lessons about personal responsibility before the consequences of their mistakes were life-changing?
Martial arts classes can help provide such an arena – like a testing ground for real life. Many of our high school students are responsible for managing their own schedules, balancing their homework and practice time, and making sure that they qualify for testing on a consistent basis. It’s an opportunity for parents to let their kids figure out how to sink or swim without having to worry that the mistakes will be so big that they can’t recover. While they’re mastering simple life skills, they are also staying in shape, making new friends, developing great workout habits, and setting and achieving goals along the way. And college counselors love to see black belt training on applications because it shows a student’s ability to set and stick to a long term goal.
Most adults come to a martial arts class because they’re looking for a new and interesting way to get into shape, lose weight, and/or manage stress. Our classes do all that and they also do something that most people don’t think about: protect your brain health.
More and more research is pointing out that adults need to do more to keep their brains fit as they age. With our smart phones doing all the remembering for us, many adults don’t have much opportunity to strengthen their memory; and after a certain age, many people stop finding opportunities to learn new things. Exercise itself is a great way to keep your brain in shape, but studying and memorizing new information is an important key to long term brain health. Martial arts training gives you both in a fun, supportive atmosphere. Why just train your body when you can also train your brain?
Fun and fitness for the whole family! Turn your family time into a workout that everyone will enjoy. It can be difficult to find activities that your entire family will enjoy, especially if your kids aren’t close to the same age. Family martial arts classes are designed to be suitable for all ages and abilities.

There aren’t many workouts that can be shared by adults and children. Cheering from the sidelines isn’t the same as doing something together.
Family martial arts classes offer families a way to spend quality time together and get their exercise, too. Everyone in the family learns at an appropriate level, but you’ll be learning the same basic skills. That means you can cheer one another on while also burning calories, relieving stress, and learning valuable lessons that apply to all areas of life.
